One pouch of freeze-dried salmon for a dog and a cat
Updated
Salmon treats for dogs and cats can come from one pouch; the listing names both animals in the product title, and its FAQ says the pouch is for dogs and cats. Break the cat's piece small or crumble it over food, keep the dog's share separate, and use the treat calculator for the dog only.
Can dogs and cats share the same salmon treats?
The listing says yes, in two places. The product title names dogs and cats together, and the listing's FAQ reads: "The pouch is for dogs and cats. Break a piece small or crumble it over food." The pouch itself is 1.5 oz of wild-caught salmon with no other ingredient, so there is no dog recipe and no cat recipe. One treat for a dog and a cat is the same treat.
What the listing does not do is tell you how much a cat should have, and neither will we. The treat budget calculator on our product page is written for dogs. A cat's amount is a question for your veterinarian.
The bag's feeding line covers both animals. The bag says: "Provide fresh water and supervise while feeding." Two pets means two water bowls and your eyes on both.
How do you split one pouch between a dog and a cat?
By setting each pet's portion before either one arrives. The dog's share is a weight from the calculator; the cat's share is whatever your vet told you, prepared the way the listing describes. The pouch stays sealed while you hand things out.
Sharing a treat pouch with a cat runs on a short routine:
- Break the cat's bit small, or crumble it over the cat's food, as the listing describes.
- Set the dog's share apart in its own dish, weighed against the calculator's number.
- Give each pet its portion in its own spot, out of reach of the other.
- Put water out for both.
- Close the pouch once both portions are out.
- Wash your hands when you are finished.
Step six is there because the salmon is freeze-dried raw. The bag says: "Wash your hands after handling it."
Separate spots matter in a dog and cat home. Putting the cat's portion where the dog cannot reach it is simpler than refereeing, and it keeps each portion with the animal it was weighed for.
How small should a cat's piece be next to a dog's?
Smaller, and the listing gives the direction without a measurement. For a cat, it says to break a piece small or crumble it over food. For a dog, the listing describes the pieces as medium sized and says they break into small, quick rewards, and the fit chart puts the pouch with adult dogs of all sizes.
So the dog can take a piece whole or broken, and the cat's piece gets snapped down further or turned to crumbs. There is no per-piece weight on the label, so "small" is as precise as anyone can honestly be. Our cats page goes into serving a cat on its own.

Whose treat budget does the calculator cover?
The dog's. The calculator on our product page asks for a dog's daily calories and starts at 10 percent of that number, shown as a weight of salmon using the label's figure of about 85.6 kcal per ounce. It has no cat setting, and we are not going to bolt one on without a basis for it.
For the cat, ask your vet how much salmon, if any, fits the cat's day, and use the listing's small piece or crumble method to serve it. For the dog, the calculator gives a starting point and your vet sets the real share.
The dog's weight and the cat's amount both come out of one 1.5 oz pouch. Close it each time both dishes are filled. The bag says: "Reseal the pouch once it is open and store it cool and dry." For a page on a single question, try the guides hub.
Questions
Does my cat need a different salmon treat?
Not from us. The listing names dogs and cats on the same pouch, and its FAQ says the pouch is for both. What changes for a cat is the size: break a piece small or crumble it over food. The amount is your vet's call, and the calculator on our product page does not cover cats.
What if the dog eats the cat's piece?
Count it against the dog's daily weight and move the cat's dish somewhere the dog cannot reach next time. The bag says: "Provide fresh water and supervise while feeding." If you stay in the room until both dishes are empty, you see which pet ate what.
Can the treat budget calculator be used for a cat?
No. It is written for dogs, takes a dog's daily calories and shows a weight of salmon from the 10 percent default. There is no cat setting, and we have no basis to add one. For a cat, ask your veterinarian for an amount and serve it the way the listing describes.
Is the pouch listed for cats as well as dogs?
Yes. The product title names dogs and cats, and the listing's FAQ repeats it: "The pouch is for dogs and cats. Break a piece small or crumble it over food." The listing's fit chart for dogs puts it with adult dogs of all sizes. That is the full extent of what the listing says about who the pouch is for.
Can I use the same pouch as a topper for both pets?
The bag says: "Feed as a treat or meal topper." The listing suggests crumbling a piece over kibble or a raw meal for a dog, and crumbling over food for a cat. Whatever lands on the dog's dinner comes out of the dog's daily weight; the cat's topper amount is your vet's number.
Is the seafood sampler for dogs and cats too?
Its listing reads: "Single ingredient in every bag. Suitable for dogs and cats." Inside are one bag each of salmon, shrimp and blue-lipped mussels, and the same listing notes that the box contains shellfish and fish. Our seafood sampler page lists the contents. We make no claim about which bag a cat prefers.
